The journey so far and 'was exhausting, the 10 hour trip became 15 because of rain that flooded the road, but when we forget the tiredness. This town, situated in a valley, the Salar de Atacama , about 2200 m, but also in the desert at the foot of the snowy peaks of the Andes, had developed enormously over the past 15 years, and now it 's become one of the places' visited Chile, as in the surrounding area there are beautiful natural scenery, all different from each other.
Despite recent growth, which in part surely has changed him, all the houses are made of cactus wood and adobe, a kind of clay in the color of the desert, and the roads are not paved.
There are many agencies that sell a range of excursions to do in the area, so the competition keeps the prices within reasonable figures. Choose one to which we will rely on four tours we decided to do.
The first and 'the same afternoon: we go to visit the Valley of the Moon, Death Valley , and then admire the Puesta del sol (sunset) at the top of Dune Mayor, a huge dune sand 150 meters high.
The landscape and the colors are gorgeous, too bad that we are more than 300 tourists, all doing the same thing at the same time!

The next morning, woke up at 3:30 and leaving at 4 to go to visit the Geyser Tatio , 2 hours by bus to get up to 4400 meters, the place and 'surreal sunrise overlooking this valley, where water and puffs of steam rising from the ground, making it very similar to the classical vision of hell Dante. The temperature and 'about -5, and only a good tea' the mate of coca and it warms a bit student 'the effects of the rise.
Continue going to a spa tub of water, water, 'but hot outside and' always cold: we surrender to the bathroom but in many they strip off and plunge.
The tour continues until you reach a tiny village of 40 inhabitants, where along with herbal medicine and the church there are stalls selling satellite dishes and kebabs on the grill (this time not to taste!).

Let's go back to 12 in the country, pennica, and 16 .... another trip to the lagoon Cejar, Ojos del Salar, salt lake and Tebenquiche : Cejar the lagoon, in the desert, and 'salt water and bathe and' a very fun experience, as you float on a mat, and once one is left with a real salt crust on!
Pero 'a dip in the nearby Ojos, two large pools of fresh water and much more' cold, it cools and cleans.
The tour ends with cocktail and sunset on the edge of an expanse of salt, where we have fun taking pictures with the nice flat perspective.

The tour de force continues the next morning with destiny lagoon Chaxa and follow Lagunas Altiplanicas to 4100 meters.: On road trip to Machuca, a village has a church in 1780 and some blade free to stroll the streets along the way you see the Cordillera more and more 'imminent and many volcanoes, some of which are still active, with all the snow-capped peaks.
The Chaxa and 'a lagoon at about 2800 meters. Surrounded by a desert of salt, where they live and nest flamingos and other birds.
Those Altiplanico, Miscanti and Miniques at 4100 mt. are two lakes situated on the slopes of the volcano Lascar, with a beautiful view.
the evening, and 'Valentine's Day, we follow the advice of the Lonely and we go to eat at the Casona and we manage with 35 euros for two (and luckily we chose the fixed price menu!).
Last day of absolute descanso, walk through the village, visit the church and the archaeological museum, a few small purchases and we are ready to leave for Chile tomorrow to head towards the Bolivia, the reserve Guayacala and Salar de Uyuni, the salt lake more 'big world, we face at 4900 meters.
the evening, coming by chance in a coffee shop, we have a welcome and unexpected surprise: John find that we had left over a month ago to 4000 km away in El Chalten! We recount past experiences during their trip, the next goal, and we set to meet in Rome and Verona ns. return.
